From the same footage in Japan, director Pierre Carniaux and artist Thierry Fournier create together the film "Last Room" and the interactive artwork "Dépli" : a dialog between cinema and visual arts that proposes a new experience. Since the beginning, the two artists wanted to create both a linear and a playable form of the same film.
Created on iPad, the interactive artwork "Dépli" proposes a new form of cinematographic experience, with a navigation through the film Last Room’s shots and space-time, using a tactile interface. A “playable” and sensual cinema, in which the viewer is able to create his own journey within the film, choosing and mixing the shots, playing with their playback direction and speed. The artwork can be played in a movie theater, an exhibition or at home, proposing the new experience of re-writing a film by the touch.
"Dépli" can be played on the iPad or connected to an external screen (see screenshots). Its interface is automatically updated in both cases. The application is entirely trilingual (english - french - japanese).
The film "Last Room" deals with the relationship between the collective and the intimate, the spoken word and the landscape. It combines stories shot in hotel rooms with a collective history surrounding the abandoned island of Gunkanijima.
